Composition Formforte 400 Each capsule contains Formoterol Fumarate 12 mcg. (As Formoterol Fumarate Dihydrate BP). Budesonide BP 400 mcg.
Description: Formoforte 400 is a combination of Budesonide, a potent glucocorticoid and Formoterol, a selective long acting ß2 agonist. Budesonide is a potent glucocorticoid that binds high affinity to the
glucocorticoid receptor. It has a high ratio of topical to systemic activity. Formoterol is a very potent long-acting adrenoceptor ß2-agonist with a high intrinsic and rapid onset of action.
Indications: Regular of persistent asthma where use of a combination of inhaled corticosteroid therapy plus a bronchodilator, has been found appropriate. Symptomatic treatment of severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with a history of repeated exacerbations despite regular therapy with long-acting bronchodilators.
Contraindications: Formoforte 400 should not be taken if known hypersensitive to Budesonide. Formoterol or inhaled Lactose and for acute bronchodilation in COPD or asthma.
Warnings and Precautions: The management of asthma should normally follow stepwise program and patient response should be monitored clinically and by lung function tests. Formoforte 400 should not be used to treat acute asthma symptoms for which a fast and short acting bronchodilator is required. Patient should be advised to have their relief medication available at all times. Formoforte 400 
is not intended for the initial management of asthma until the need of appropriate dosage of corticosteroid has been established. Increasing use of short-acting bronchodilators to relieve the asthma symptoms indicates deterioration of asthma control. The patient should be medically reviewed where the current dosage of Formoforte 400 has failed to give adequate control of asthma. Consideration should be given to additional corticosteroid therapies, and to include administration of antibiotics if an infection is present. Treatment with Formoforte 400 should not be stopped abruptly.
Side-effects: Formoforte 400 contains Formoterol and Budesonide, the type of severity of adverse reaction associated with each of the compounds may be expected. There is no incidence of additional adverse events following concurrent administration of the two compounds. Systemic effects may occur with any inhaled corticosteroid, particularly at high doses prescribed for long periods. These effects are much less likely to occur than with oral corticosteroids. Possible systemic effects include adrenal suppression, growth retardation in children and adolescents, decrease in bone mineral density, cataract and glaucoma. It is important, therefore, that the dose of inhaled corticosteroid is titrated to the lowest dose at which effective control is maintained. It is recommended that height of children receiving prolonged treatment with inhaled corticosteroid is regularly monitored. Additional systemic corticosteroid administration should be considered during periods of stress or elective surgery.
